Top Tshwane ANC official expelled for ‘masterminding’ disruption

The Gauteng African National Congress’ (ANC) provincial disciplinary committee on Monday announced the expulsion of a senior member after he was found guilty of misconduct. The committee said the sanction against the ANC’s Tshwane regional deputy secretary and member of mayoral committee‚ Tshwane regional deputy secretary and member of mayoral committee for roads‚ George Matjila‚ is intended to send a strong message to party members.His transgression was apparently disrupting a regional congress taking place in Pretoria in 2014.The committee resolved that Matjila’s “masterminding” of the disruption of the congress was against the ANC’s constitution and warranted his expulsion from the party.The committee decision to expel Matjila was made on Friday. He has 14 days to appeal the judgment.Monday’s announcement came after the ANC in Gauteng on Monday took the unusual step of calling a media briefing to announce the results of a disciplinary hearing.In a statement issued of behalf of the provincial head of its disciplinary committee‚ Mondli Gungubele‚ it said it would “publicise the judgments of some members of the ANC who have been referred to the provincial disciplinary committee”. - TMG Digital/TMG Local Government..
