Nail-biting‚ scratching heads‚ reclining in seats. That was some of body language on display by councillors in the City of Ekurhuleni's inaugural meeting in Germiston on Tuesday. While their colleagues took oaths and affirmations in groups of 10‚ boredom had begun to creep in.The swearing-in of councillors started at about 10.30am and by 11.15 the officials looked like they had had enough. Fortunately for them‚ the process didn’t go on for much longer. Journalists also showed signs of fatigue‚ with most turning to their tablets and phones to keep awake‚ while others chatted amongst themselves to kill time. The Ekurhuleni council meeting was running smoothly and without any of the glitches or drama witnessed in similar meetings in Johannesburg on Monday and in Tshwane last week. After all the councillors were sworn in‚ the sitting switched focus to elect the speaker of council‚ its executive mayor and chief whip. - TMG Digital..
