Bayliss to coach England?

Trevor Bayliss is understood to have accepted an offer to become the new England coach, pipping fellow Australian Jason Gillespie to the post. Telegraph Sport understands Bayliss has responded positively to an offer from the English Cricket Board and is expected to be named successor to Peter Moores after the first Test against New Zealand, with further talks expected today.Bayliss, the current coach of New South Wales, was interviewed 18 months ago when Moores was reappointed.He has a long record of success in domestic, first-class and one-day cricket and coached Sri Lanka for four years alongside the current England assistant coach Paul Farbrace.Both were on the Sri Lankan team bus when it was attacked by terrorists in Pakistan in 2009.Two years later he led Sri Lanka to the World Cup final where they were beaten by India.He has coached New South Wales to the Sheffield Shield title, won the Indian Premier League with the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Big Bash in Australia.Gillespie, the Yorkshire head coach, was the favourite for the job and met with Andrew Strauss last week to discuss the position, but Strauss said he was talking to other candidates, with Bayliss and Gary Kirsten, the former India and South Africa coach, also on the shortlist.When he was appointed director of cricket last week, Strauss said he wanted to find a coach who shared his own philosophy on cricket.Bayliss coached Australia last year against South Africa while Darren Lehmann was taking a break.He was in charge of the team for the Twenty20 portion of the limited overs series against South Africa. ..
