South Africa put up a brave defence of their Hong Kong Super Sixes’ title before bowing out to a more experienced Pakistan side in the semifinals on Sunday, said Cricket SA (CSA).

The Pakistan side included Shoaib Malik, Imran Nazir and Shabbir Ahmed, CSA said in a statement.

Malik and Nazir are contenders for the Pakistan World Cup side, but are not involved in the current One Day International series against the Proteas.

Pakistan posted 138 in their five overs to win comfortably by 50 runs.

In the final later on Sunday, Pakistan posted another big total of 132 for six, but lost when Australia managed 50 runs off the last nine balls to end 135 for four.

Nazir conceded 48 runs in the last over, which he did not even complete after bowling a clutch of wides. Australia was captained by in David Warner.
