13 October 2016 - 18:50 By Craig Ray

Former SA under-20 flyer Sergeal Petersen has fully recovered from an ankle injury and will start on the wing for the Free State Cheetahs against the Golden Lions in Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final in Bloemfontein. Petersen replaces Rayno Benjamin while centre William Small-Smith drops out of the side altogether for the crunch match against the defending champions. The Cheetahs have gone through the entire campaign without a blemish‚ winning eight out of eight pool matches. But the Lions have hit form recently and will ask some tough questions of the tournament pacesetters. Coach Franco Smith also made a couple of changes to the pack from the side that beat Griquas 63-26 in their final pool match. Flank Paul Schoeman replaces Henco Venter while Namibian hooker Torsten van Jaarsveld takes over from Jacques du Toit in the No 2 jersey. “It [selections] gave me a big headache‚” Smith told Bloemfontein radio station OFM. “Rayno [Benjamin] has done really well‚ although Sergeal has got something special about him. “We all know that he has the X-factor and that’s something that may be needed.“From my experience I know that semi-finals are about moments and Sergeal has the ability to do something special. “I took a long time to make this decision and my heart really bleeds for a guy like William Small-Smith and everybody else that has trained so hard. Michael van der Spuy is another one.” Free State Cheetahs: - 15 Clayton Blommetjies‚ 14 Sergeal Petersen‚ 13 Francois Venter (Captain)‚ 12 Nico Lee‚ 11 Raymond Rhule‚ 10 Niel Marais‚ 9 Shaun Venter‚ 8 Niell Jordaan‚ 7 Uzair Cassiem‚ 6 Tier Schoeman‚ 5 Reniel Hugo‚ 4 Justin Basson‚ 3 Aranos Coetzee‚ 2 Torsten van Jaarsveld‚ 1 Ox Nche.
