Mamelodi Sundowns stretched their advantage at the top of the PSL standings to seven points with a well-crafted 3-1 win against their energetic, hardworking opponents Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday afternoonafter second placed Kaizer Chiefs lost 1-0 to Free State Stars at the same time.

Free State Stars put in an impressive shift as they defeated a below-par Chiefs 1-0.

Boitumelo Sekgobela's first-half strike was the difference as Stars moved clear of the drop zone.

Arrows were game opponents throughout the contest but lacked the necessary fire-power to grab the three points on offer, while their tactically astute opponents, boxed clever and took advantage of the opportunities which came their way.

Bryce Moon who was having his first official run out in Arrows' colours opened the scoring for the home team with a thunderous strike from just inside in the Sundowns penalty area, in the 10th minute.

Lebohang Mokoena got the first of his two goals in this match when he got onto the end of a Franklin Cale cross and stabbed the ball past Helton Da Rocha in the Arrows goal in the 21st minute.

An unmarked Mokoena put the visitors in the lead, five minutes before the interval, when he tapped in Cale's corner.

Arrows went in search of an equaliser for much of the second half but the Sundowns defensive capabilities came to the fore.

The home side's best chance came when Siphesihle Nzimade tried to run onto a through ball from midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi, but Sundowns keeper Wayne Sandilands was quick off his line to gather the ball.

Mabhuti Khenyeza confirmed the destiny of the three points when he easily beat Da Rocha after being set free by Katlego Mphela.
