SECRET'S OUT: Spier brings a taste of Stellenbosch to Braamfontein for November

Could there be anything more perfect on a warm Jozi evening than a wine slushie? With a mixture of signature chardonnay and pinot noir, mixed berry juice and water coming together in icy bliss, the Spier Secret Courtyard, launched last week in Braamfontein, is making November taste like summer.

This is the first time the wine farm's Secret Festival franchise has made its way up north. Open three nights a week, from Thursday to Saturday, the pop-up wine bar is the perfect place to wind down with friends, or catch a few pre-drinks before hitting the dance floor at Kitcheners and Great Dane.

The wood and copper-clad space is cozy and intimate. But the place comes alive the moment the chairs (upcycled wine boxes) find their way outside, as wine lovers and the kids in the know, clutching buchu-salted candy peanuts, glasses of red or white, or Devils Peak beer, flow onto the sidewalk and interior courtyard.

There are live music sessions on Fridays - such as Cape Town band John Wizards. On Thursdays, 20 ticket-holders can enjoy the gastro-magic of one of three of Johannesburg's most celebrated foodies. The Cook's Table's Zolitha Magengelele, blogger Thando Moleketi and Marie Claire's Aspasia Karras will host pop-up Secret Dinners, sure to be paired with good Spier wines.
