Boks look good to beat Wallabies on home turf

30 September 2016 - 09:29 By Mike Makaab

We have some really interesting rugby to look forward to at the weekend on both the international and local fronts. The Rugby Championship draws to a close in the next two weeks. All eyes will be on the Springboks' home Test against the Wallabies. With both teams being thrashed by the all-conquering All Blacks, the focus will shift to which team has improved sufficiently to win this encounter.Three weeks ago in Brisbane the Boks were narrowly beaten by the Aussies and one would logically imagine that home-ground advantage and the high altitude of the Loftus venue will be enough for the home team to come out of this one victorious. I am going to go with South Africa to win by a narrow margin. What looks certain is another New Zealand victory against the Los Pumas in Argentina. The Currie Cup is reaching boiling point and with the Cheetahs assured of the top spot and the Bulls having completed their round robin fixtures and guaranteeing themselves a place in the semifinals, all interest will be on the battle for the final two places for the semis. Western Province are at home to Boland and must be strongly fancied to win.But the big game of the weekend is in Johannesburg between the Golden Lions and the Sharks, with the winner taking their place in the knockout stage of the competition. I am leaning towards the Lions. With a carryover and the Rugby 5 Pool likely to reach R25000, we have opted for a larger permutation this week...
