'We need to wake up and pray as a nation' - celebs speak out on Jesus Dome burning

In devastating scenes on Tuesday evening, fire engulfed the iconic Durban Christian Centre Jesus Dome in KwaZulu-Natal.

The fire, which destroyed much of the building, made headlines as people rushed to social media to share the news of the blaze and offer their prayers and support for its congregation.

Among some of these messages, were those from local celebrities who used their platforms and influence to offer condolences to those affected.

"Whatever this is, God will have the last say. Our prayers are with the leadership and congregants of Durban Christian Centre," wrote musician Kabelo Mabalane.

He was joined in prayer by rapper Chad Da Don, who shared a picture of the blaze next to a caption reading: "Our prayers and support are with Durban Christian Centre and Dr Fred Roberts and pastor John Torrens after the devastating fire!!"

As social media users shared bible scriptures to strengthen each other, popular gospel star Ntokozo Mbatha shared one of her favourite verses as a tribute to victims of the tragedy.

"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:13‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬) Sending our prayers to Pastors John & Joy Torrens, the leadership & congregation at  DCC Jesus Dome #JesusIsStillLord," she added.

The blaze provided a moment of introspection for many, in a nation that has been plagued by fire and protest action in recent months. It's a situation that was not lost on rapper Aewon Wolf.
