'Blow out all your candles Madiba'

Former president Nelson Mandela turns 93 today and children from Nelson Mandela Bay were asked for their thoughts on the icon.

• Alexia Young, 8: "Madiba was the president and he was in jail. He is 90 years old and I think he should have a birthday party with motorbikes. Happy birthday Madiba, have a very, very nice day."
• Owethu Ntengo, 5: "Mandela is the president and he is 30 years old. He should have cake and take lots of photos. He must blow all his candles."
• Naweed Malik, 7: "Madiba is a good and kind man and he helps people. He is 94 years old and on his birthday I think he should go to the movies."
• Thina Tom, 7: "Madiba is our father. He is 33. I think on his birthday he should invite me and many other people. He should have chips and chocolates. I want to sing for him and say happy birthday."
• Lungisa Madodonke, 6: "He was the president and he is turning 36 years old. I want to say hello Mandela, happy birthday and God bless you."
• Chulumanco Xundu, 10: "I think Mandela's father was a chief. He spent 27 years in jail, he is now in Mthatha. I want to write and tell him that I love him so much and we are keeping the country clean. Happy 90th birthday Tata."
• Nqobani Phiri, 7: "Madiba has lots of money and he is turning 45. I would buy him medicine for his birthday to get him well. He is the greatest president in South Africa."
• Robyn Unsworth, 11: "Mandela said we must not make other people slaves. He is turning 93 and he must invite everyone to his birthday. I would buy Madiba a new suit."
