A man fell 90 meters down a cliff in the God’s Window area of Mpumalanga, paramedics said on Sunday.

The man in his 20s had stepped onto the edge of the cliff and it crumbled due to recent rains, said ER24 spokesman Christo Venter.

“Rescue workers from local authorities battled close to four hours to remove the patient with rope equipment to a safe point where he could be airlifted to hospital,” he said.

Bad weather had earlier prevented the safe operation of the helicopter.

He was eventually rescued and airlifted to Mediclinic Nelspruit. He sustained multiple broken bones, said Venter.
