Sharks inside centre Paul Jordaan might have missed out on the Springbok training camp but his performance against a re-jigged and rejuvenated Stormers backline could make Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer reassess.
Allister Coetzee's men have not had a very good season, but they are still a formidable defensive side and their attacking game seems to have found a second wind - something Jordaan said comes with the freedom of playing with nothing to lose.
The Sharks have been in the same position as the Stormers in the past and spoilt the party for the Cape side many a time.
A loss is something the Sharks must avoid with the prospect of a home semifinal dangling before them.
"After they saw that they can't really get into the play-offs, they decided to throw the ball around and lately they have started to play some very good rugby," Jordaan said.
"I wouldn't say the top spot is for us to lose but we have set ourselves up nicely. We just need to stay composed.
"There aren't any easy teams in the competition and they will be a dangerous unit.
"If we were in their position, we would love to knock the number one team from their perch, and I think that is something they would want to do."
