The mother of then deputy president Jacob Zuma's rape accuser has spoken out about the homesickness that brought her and her daughter home after five years abroad, according to a report.
"I was missing home very much...," the mother, who cannot be named to protect her daughter, said.
Khwezi was the name given to her daughter by the media during the trial.
The Sunday Times newspaper reported that her mother said that after Zuma was acquitted on May 5 2006 in the High Court in Johannesburg, they fled to the Netherlands -- where they were given asylum.
"I can't manage bitterness, so I chose not to be bitter, but the way we left was very painful."
They struggled with language and cultural differences in the Netherlands and later left for Tanzania.
The two now live in a township and her daughter is working.
The mother said she was not sure if justice had been served in the trial. "I am not trained as a lawyer to say whether she was treated fairly or not".
After the interview, Khwezi asked the Sunday Times to leave her mother alone.
