A man was arrested in Randburg, Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon after security guards found the body of a dead woman on the back of his bakkie, Gauteng police said.

Security guards on duty in Randburg noticed two men standing in an open space next to a Nissan bakkie, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said.

One of the men had a spade in his hand, when the guards approached the men one of them got into the bakkie and drove away, while the one with the spade fled on foot.

"The security followed [the bakkie]... and they cornered him in one of the streets," Makhubela said.

"They found that there was a body of a woman at the back of the bakkie."

The driver of the bakkie was arrested. Police were still looking for the second man.

Makhubela said the woman had bruises on her right hand and forehead but it was still not clear how she was killed.
