Shakes chases Bafana record

Victory in Mauritania on Saturday could see national team coach Shakes Mashaba set a new milestone with Bafana Bafana. A win would be the 23rd for Mashaba in his four stints leading the team, taking him past the record he currently jointly holds with 1996 African Nations Cup-winning coach Clive Barker.The previous 22 victories have come from 40 games in charge, three fewer than Barker, with Mashaba also overseeing 14 draws and just four defeats.He already holds the record for witnessing the most national team goals as a coach with his sides having scored 63 times in his 40 games.They have conceded 24 in that time...
