Bidvest Wits earned an intelligent, gritty and highly entertaining 1-0 Absa Premiership win over SuperSport United at the Bidvest Stadium last night in a contest of high tactical and technical quality. The clash between two PSL title contenders was played at pace by an array of some of the PSL's best talent.Jabulani Shongwe opened the scoring for Wits in the 40th minute. Adding to the intrigue was the dismissal of Wits striker Henrico Botes a minute into first-half injury time.Matsatsantsa fell to their second defeat in a row, following a 4-1 home defeat by Kaizer Chiefs.Orlando Pirates have reason for concern ahead of this weekend's CAF Confederation Cup first-leg semi-final clash against Al Ahly after their goalless draw away to Polokwane City.The Buccaneers are without a victory since August 22 and pressure is piling on coach Eric Tinkler, who desperately needs a win to restore the confidence currently lacking from both the players and supporters.The in-form Mpho Makola failed to make a mark for Pirates, captain Oupa Manyisa was not his usual dominant self before being taken off injured and Sifiso Myeni was ineffective on the wing.All of which should be of concern for Tinkler with the biggest match of his coaching career coming up on the weekend.Platinum Stars, yet to lose in the PSL this season, continued their impressive run by beating Chippa United 3-1 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, to go second in the log - just one behind Wits.In another high-scoring game, Free State Stars beat Maritzburg United 3-2 to take all three points at Harry Gwala Stadium.
