South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has commended the community of Marapong township in Limpopo for enduring the difficult wait for a health facility instead of burning down the old clinic in the area.Ramaphosa spoke briefly during the hand-over of the multimillion rand health centre project in Marapong in Lephalale as part of the World TB Day commemorations. He arrived flanked by other leaders including health minister Aaron Motsoaledi‚ Limpopo health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba and premier Stan Mathabatha.“I particularly would like to thank the community of Marapong for not burning down the old four-room clinic in order to get this one. You were patient‚” Ramaphosa said. He said the community had done well by raising their issues through the relevant structures. “As you raise these issues government will deliver. Government will deliver without you going to burn down the library. It will deliver without you having to burn down a school‚” Ramaphosa said. The new facility will be an upgrade from a clinic to a fully fledged 24-hour health centre.Limpopo premier Stan Mathabatha said the project was made possible through the efforts of government together with mining company Exxaro and power utility Eskom.Mathabatha said this signified a growing partnership between government and the private sector when coming to community development. He said health was an important human rights issue‚ adding that TB and HIV/AIDS needed special attention.“We cannot allow a curable disease to kill our people. The coming generations will never forgive us for that‚” Mathabatha said. - Sowetan/TMG Digital..
