Police are investigating whether the death of a man in his mid-20s was linked to ongoing protest action in Durban. A metro police officer said the man was found near Dumisani Makhaye Drive in the region of Malandela Road‚ in the north of the city. The killing apparently took place on Tuesday morning‚ in an area that has been affected by widespread protest action in the city."Not sure if related to protests‚" the officer said via text message. "He appears to have been beaten and thrown down embankment."Confirmation of the incident from SAPS officers was not immediately available.Large parts of Durban have been brought to a standstill since Monday‚ as angry protesters blockaded roads with burning tyres and other debris.Vehicles have been burnt as part of the protest‚ which was sparked by residents who were unhappy with the African National Congress' candidate lists for the upcoming local government elections.- TMG Digital/Durban Bureau..
