MEC orders probe into horror crash allegedly caused by passenger attacking taxi driver

Four died on the scene while five are being treated for critical injuries following the accident KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison‚ Mxolisi Kaunda‚ has ordered a probe into the cause of an accident in which four people were killed when a taxi collided with a truck near Richards Bay on Sunday morning.He said preliminary reports indicated that a passenger who is a psychiatric patient allegedly attacked the driver of the taxi while th vehicle was in motion‚ thereby distracting him and causing the taxi to crash into a truck on the N2 between eMpangeni and eNseleni.“There were four people who died on the scene while five sustained critical injuries and six minor injuries were taken to Ngwelezane and Richards Bay hospitals‚” Kaunda said.He said it was alleged that the passenger grabbed the driver's throat‚ causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the truck which was travelling in the slow lane.The truck was apparently travelling from Mtubatuba to Durban.“We have assigned law enforcement agencies to work on the investigation to uncover the cause of the accident‚” Kaunda added...
