A 25-year-old Diepsloot woman appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing her stepdaughter 19 times.

The woman‚ who cannot be named to protect the identity of the six-year-old child‚ had her case postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail application.

It is alleged the child's father had laid charges of malicious damage to property against the woman.

  • Three children dead in suspected pesticide poisoning‚ say Western Cape policeHealth authorities in the Western Cape fear that at least 10 people have been poisoned by food containing pesticide.

When the father went to the house he shared with the woman with the police on March 24‚ the woman had locked herself in with the child.

According to the charge sheet‚ the woman refused to open when the police ordered her to do so and instead stabbed the child in full view of the police officers and other witnesses.
