Three to appear in court in connection with shootout at Camps Bay nightclub

Three suspects‚ linked to a shootout at a nightclub in Camps Bay on the Cape peninsula‚ are set to appear in court on Wednesday.

They were arrested on Monday morning after allegedly opening fire at a Café Caprice in the upmarket Atlantic Seaboard suburb.

According to police a 28-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and a 33-year-old was hit in the arm.

Camps Bay Station Commander‚ Captain Keith Chandler‚ confirmed that the 33-year-old had been discharged. The other is in a stable condition in hospital.

Neighbouring businesses in Camps Bay refused to comment.

But TimesLive spoke to four club owners in Long Street. It has emerged that the shooting has left many of them on the edge. None of the owners would speak on the record but reported a month-long standoff between rival security groups.

In late March a new player in club security entered the market and has quickly snatched control from an older grouping that had monopolised the market for some time. Multiple standoffs and incidents have forced some owners to increase their security.

However the owners were reluctant to elaborate for fear of retaliation.

In spite of this‚ one owner is refusing to up his security.

“We are using the same security I’ve always had‚ and it’s been business as usual. We have had no problems‚ no incidents‚ no nothing‚” the owner said.
