With a target of R200‚000‚ it's a big ask. But Prince Chikezie is pinning his dream on the generosity of South Africans.

Chikezie‚ in a crowdfunding appeal on BackABuddy‚ says he obtained a Bachelor of Science (cum laude) at Stellenbosch University in 2016.

"I am seeking help in furthering my education.

"I was recently selected to study medicine through the highly competitive Graduate Entry Medical Programme at the University of the Witwatersrand‚ the only institution that offers this contemporary programme in SA.

"My career ambition is to become an academic neurosurgeon and to contribute to the advancement of neurosurgery/neurology across Africa."

Chikezie says he is originally from Nigeria‚ though he arrived in South Africa at the age of 10.

"I have resided here for the past 13 years.

"Unfortunately... (I am experiencing) persisting financial and immigration difficulties which restricts my access to funding.

"I am charged at double local tuition‚ as I am still not officially a citizen of SA. It is a difficult reality to accept and has inevitably left me in despair. Despite the odds‚ I am hoping to raise funds for half of the duration of the programme (two years) whilst resolving my immigration complexities...

"I am confident that‚ with support‚ I can become an asset in the field of health sciences and medicine."

So far‚ he has received pledges of almost R12‚000‚ along with lots of good wishes for his future.

Jess Prissman said: "Good luck Prince! Can’t wait to see you achieve all of your dreams" while Kelly & family commented‚ "Can't think of someone more deserving!! You've got this Prince!"

The Saieva family shared‚ "Thank you for inspiring Marco to be the best he can be. Your love of knowledge inspired him so much - the mark of a true leader."

"Your dedication is truly inspiring‚ Prince. I really hope you achieve your dreams. Good luck‚" added Charlene B.

On Facebook‚ educator Tshepo Molefe posted‚ "You will pull through my man‚ hang in there Prince‚" and Sharon Brummer shared‚ "I have also taught this amazing young man. He deserves all the help he can get".
