Cabinet has condemned the gang rape of a mentally ill Soweto teenager.

"Cabinet has condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the barbaric act committed to a 17-year-old Soweto girl," government spokesman Jimmy Manyi told a media briefing following the executive's regular Wednesday meeting.

"Cabinet calls on the law enforcement to ensure that the full might of the law is implemented. Cabinet congratulates the South African Police Service for their decisive and swift action in apprehending the alleged perpetrators," he said.

Seven men were arrested in Dobsonville, Soweto on Tuesday, after they were matched to the descriptions of the rapists seen in a video recording of the attack.
