Newly elected North West premier Supra Mahumapelo has promised to change the image of the province, his spokesman said on Thursday.
"The commitment was made by premier Mahumapelo in his acceptance speech delivered in the provincial legislature on Wednesday," said Lesiba Moses Kgwele.
Mahumapelo had committed his administration to implement a rebranding, repositioning, and renewal programme to change the image of the province.
The philosophy of "Saamwerk-Saamtrek" (work together, pull together) would guide his term of office.
He would uphold the Constitution and work with opposition parties represented in the legislature, committees of the legislature, and communities.
"Being members of the legislature makes us no better people, more intelligent than others. We are a province that has great potential. A province of people who love progress, peace, and believe in the rule of law," Mahumapele said in a statement.
"These are people whom I refer to when I say together 'we move North West forward'."
On Wednesday the secretary to the provincial legislature Mmamokoena Gaoretelelwe said the province would prosper under Mahumapelo's leadership.
"We are confident that under your leadership, the North West province will be a great force for good governance," she said.
"Your organisational skills as well as your easygoing personality will take this province far..."
Mahumapelo promised the members of the executive council he would announce next Tuesday would be humble, patient, work hard, and be responsive to communities.
"This is the beginning of the continuing of the journey of the last 20 years.
"I am humbled by your decision to elect me as the premier of this province. This position of responsibility places huge responsibilities on our collective shoulders, and creates lots of expectations from everyone," he said.
He promised to do his best to live up to expectations.
Also on Wednesday, Sussana (SUBS: CORRECT) Tsebe was elected speaker and Jane Manganye deputy speaker.
