The SA under-20 rugby team and the Eastern Province Vodacom Cup team drew 31-31 at a wet EPRU Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.

The Baby Boks, who wrapped up their preparations for the IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina, ran in four tries to the three by EP. Captain CJ Stander, flanker Fanie van der Walt, lock Kene Okafor and prop Ruan Dreyer were the star performers for the Baby Boks up front. Scrumhalf Louis Schreuder was in good form and the Springbok Sevens duo of Branco du Preez and Sampie Mastriet looked solid in their first outing for the Baby Boks. Fullback Nico Scheepers was also impressive, as was winger Wandile Mjekevu. The Baby Boks leave for Buenos Aires on May 30.

  • Jose makes fan's day

Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho spared one lucky fan a night camped out under the rain by giving him a ticket to the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in Madrid on Saturday. Hundreds of Inter fans had been setting up camp since Thursday morning to make sure they could snap up one of 5000 tickets due to go on sale yesterday. Paolo Sacco, 23, was first in the queue and Mourinho gave him a ticket worth à225 (about R2110). "I can't make everyone happy but with this gesture I want to show them [the fans] how much I appreciate them," said Mourinho.

  • Kay leaving Leicester

World Cup winner Ben Kay confirmed yesterday he will leave Premiership champions Leicester at the end of this season. "I've had 11 fantastic years at Leicester, and this has been a very important part of my life," said Kay, 34, who will join his fellow England international Lewis Moody in departing Welford Road.

  • Japan thump Kazakhs

Asian champions Japan scored 15 tries to overwhelm Kazakhstan 101-7 yesterday for their third straight win in the Asian Five Nations rugby tournament. Kazakhstan have one win and two defeats in the tournament. On Friday, Gulf edged past South Korea 21-19 for a 2-2 win-loss record, leaving the Koreans with three straight defeats. Hong Kong, the fifth nation in the tournament, have a bye this weekend. The tournament's winner will qualify for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, with the runner-up going into a playoff with Uruguay, for a home-and-away contest against a side from either Europe or Africa for another World Cup berth.

  • Fitness battle for Lance

Lance Armstrong may be among the favourites for the Tour de France, but the seven-time race winner is frustrated by his lack of fitness with the start of cycling's biggest race about six weeks away. "Personally, I've struggled to find the condition I'd like," Armstrong said on Friday, two days before the start of the Tour of California.

  • Powell sparkles in Doha

Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell recovered from a poor start to win the 100m on Friday with a wind-aided time of 9.81sec at the inaugural Diamond League meeting in Doha. "I'm satisfied. It was the first race of the season," Powell said. "It's the first I've opened so well in my career so I'm happy." The win was made easier by the fact that fellow Jamaican and Olympic champion Usain Bolt skipped the meeting.
