More than 400 pupils (grades 9-11) packed into the school hall at Livingstone High School on Monday afternoon. My task was to stop many of them changing their subject from mathematics to mathematical literacy. In 2017 43.9% of matrics wrote the real maths paper and 55.1% maths lit out of 558,000 total candidates; by 2021 that number had gone down to 37% who wrote maths and up to 63% who opted for maths lit out of 700,000 total...
