Late payment by local promoters MoLite Productions to nine-times Grammy Award-winning superstar John Legend has left a huge gap on the programme for this week's Sixties festival in Mpumalanga.

The 33-year-old Legend, whose real name is John Stephens, was billed to headline the festival, which started yesterday.

With his withdrawal, the programme has the look of just another local music festival.

When his appearance was confirmed, Legend tweeted a local fan, saying: "Yes, I'm coming back to SA in October."

MoLite Productions' Sam Sekgota apologised .

Those remaining on the bill are veteran horn man Hugh Masekela and Bum Bum singer Zakes Bantwini. Theo Kgosinkwe, Liquideep and Teargas are also set to play at Mbombela stadium on October 15.
