Wale's 2009 debut album Attention Deficit received critical acclaim. But it was a disappointment by mainstream standards, selling only 28000 copies in its first week.

With the release of his second album, Ambition, Wale has changed his focus. Firstly, he has split up with Interscope record company, which he felt was limiting his creativity, and is now signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group.Ambition is about making it, flaunting it and partying because you've made it.

This album left me questioning whether this was the same Wale who tried to sneak rap consciousness into the mainstream with songs like Shades .

But I'll judge it on what it is - a commercial rap album. And on that basis, Ambition is a success.
