Gigi Lamayne bags top media Wits award, to set up her own record label

Award-winning hip-hop artist Gigi Lamayne is thrilled after bagging a media award at Wits University today‚ shortly after graduating as the top media studies student. In addition‚ Gigi will be using her degree to not only accelerate her career‚ but also lend a helping hand to upcoming artists through her new business venture. Speaking to TMG Entertainment after receiving her Media Monitoring Africa Prize at a ceremony held at Wits on Friday morning‚ the rapper admitted that her most recent achievement did not come without any obstacles‚ given that she had to juggle school and her music career at the same time.“If you really like something‚ you’ll make it work. I had to give up my social life to be able to do that‚” she said.Gigi revealed that the buck does not stop with her undergraduate degree. After taking a gap year‚ she plans to pursue her Honours then Master’s degree.“I’m taking a gap this year to focus on my music‚ because things are really getting hectic. But now that I’ve got my undergraduate degree‚ I’m hoping to carry on with my honours and masters probably next year.”Gigi‚ who is currently signed to Dream Team‚ took to Twitter to announce that she’ll be starting her own record label. She explained to TMG Entertainment that it’s a platform designed to help young and upcoming artists take charge of their careers.“Yes‚ I’m launching a media and entertainment hub. I’ll be working with upcoming talent and guiding them through the process of becoming artists and business people‚” she said...
