Walter Mokoena has reportedly become a victim of identity theft, following allegations that there's a man purporting to be him, who has been defrauding soccer players, coaches and officials.

Sunday Sun reports that the fraudster has been calling a number of footballers and offering them new contracts in exchange for money.

Speaking to the local publication, Walter explained: ''This guy has the players and coaches’ numbers. He offers them shady deals under my name. He’d tell a player a club wants to offer him a contract – then he’d ask the same player to deposit cash into his account," before pointing out that some soccer players have fallen prey to the scam.

In addition, the TV personality revealed that he received a call from Ama Tuks manager, Shaun Bartlett, who expressed his concerns about 'Walter' offering contracts to his players.

"Imagine going to sports functions and bumping into people who accuse you of asking money from players. This man is really denting my image in the soccer fraternity. It’s heartbreaking."

According to Sunday Sun, a case against the fraudster has been opened.

"We opened a case a while ago. I’m sure police are now investigating. Walter provided police with a Capitec account." Walter's lawyer confirmed to the publication.
