My best role yet is being a father, says Thapelo Mokoena

Thapelo Mokoena may have starred in several big name projects both here and abroad, but the actor believes that none of them measure up to his role as a father

Thapelo has stolen the hearts of South Africans with his acting over the last decade but told TshisaLIVE that it is his 2-year-old son Lereko that has stolen his.

"He has completely changed my world. Fatherhood is my best role yet. I should get an Oscar for it," he said with a laugh.

Thapelo is one of the biggest advocates for the entertainment industry and was recently awarded the Youth Achievers Award at the SA Film and Television Awards (Safta) for his efforts in transforming the field.

He said that his passion and desire to change the industry was strengthened after the birth of his son.

"He fuels my fire. Everything I do is to try and give him a better future. I can't wait for him to be old enough to come on set and just watch and learn how it is all done," he explains.

He also credited his wife, Lesego Tshepang, for being the "anchor" in his life.

"I don't know what I would do without my family. They ground me and support me in everything that I do. I am so lucky," Thapelo said.
