Trevor Noah's departure from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has sparked questions about his future, with the comedian saying he is focusing on stand-up comedy.

Trevor announced this week he will leave the popular American talk show after seven years.

“We have laughed together, we have cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it's time,” he told his studio audience on Thursday

He wanted to devote more time to stand-up comedy.

“I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road. Stand-up was done and when I got back out there again, I realised there's another part of my life I want to carry on exploring,” he added.

The date of his final show is yet to be announced, but fans can see him on stage from this weekend.

Trevor will perform his Back to Abnormal tour at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, on Friday, September 30, and Saturday, October 1.

The tour then moves to the US, where he will perform at the Amway Centre in Orlando, Florida, in two weeks time.

Next year he will perform at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 19, before moving to the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Montana on April 29.

Trevor will head home to SA in August and September with 12 shows in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.

Speaking on his homecoming, Trevor said he couldn't wait to perform for SA audiences again.

Now that he won't be on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah duty, fans around the world will have a better chance of seeing the star in action.

He has asked them where he should tour next, with a tracker on his site listing Portugal as the most popular destination.

This is followed by the US and SA.

There is also a lot of demand for Trevor in Germany, the UK, Australia and Canada.

Fans in France, India and Italy are among those who have cast the most votes to bring him to their country.

Nearly all countries in Africa have voted for him to visit, including Nigeria, Botswana, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland.
