Following the release of his single Uzungi Beke featuring Kitty, DJ and producer Manga Emzansi has released a new album S'thandwa Sami and is on a mission to take over the house music scene.

Manga, real name Mangaliso Cokoto, did a Q&A session with TshisaLIVE on the strides he's been taking in the music industry.

What impact are you looking to make through your music?

I want people to remember my music as I normally write about love and respect. It is those songs you can still listen to after a few years. I believe in love and that’s why most of my songs talk about love.

You've had mentors who have made a huge impact on your career, including DJ Clock, Oskido and DJ Pepsi. How have you paid that forward with others coming into the industry?

I’ve worked with a lot of producers and DJs who are gurus. Willingness to learn and respect will take you far and connect you to good people. Never undermine people because we have different talents.

How would you describe the trajectory of your career thus far?

It was a tough journey but I’m surrounded by wise people and believing in yourself always helps. I always try my level best to stay relevant. I’m getting more support for my music so the journey continues and I’ll keep giving good music to my supporters

How do you juggle your 9am to 5pm job with your music career?

I have a 9 to 5 job in the department of education and I do my music after hours. I sleep less hours most of the time. It’s hard but in everything  I do, I do it with love. I try to make time for my music. Lunchtime at work, that’s when I create some of the beats. The job  I do for government was a backup while I was trying to find my way to the entertainment side so it’s a big funder for my music as I’m not signed with a record label.
