Mpho Maboi was candid about what led to ending her marriage to former soccer player Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
In late 2022, the media personality took to her social media timeline to confirm she and her partner were divorced after weeks of speculations on social media.
During an interview on 702, Mpho revealed she and Reneilwe finalised their divorce in 2021 after attempts to try to mend their relationship.
"We got divorced and had been quiet about it. People assumed there has to be a third party involved or it has to be about money," she said.
Mpho said she had grown unhappy in their marriage and could not imagine spending the rest of their lives together feeling that way.
"The worst thing that could have happened to my marriage was marriage itself. I firmly believe had we never got married we would probably still be together. Marriage changes everything. It changes how people view you. It changes how your family views you. It just changes everything.
"I remember feeling very sad and feeling as though this was not what I wanted. This is not going how I wanted it to go. I love to be happy and I found myself constantly saying to him 'I'm not happy'. We did try. Family meetings and all of that but it was not working."
In 2017 Mpho and Reneilwe were married in a secret ceremony and confirmed the news during an interview with DJ Fresh, but said marriage was not something everyone aspired to.
“For me, I feel like it's not the end point for everyone. Not everybody wants to get married. The whole marriage thing, can we not shove it down people's throats.”
