In the spirit of Mandela Day, hip hop sensation and Smoothies ambassador, JR (real name Tabure Thabo Bogopa Junior) spent his 67 minutes on Sunday, 17 July educating children and staff on the meaning and importance of this day that shaped South African history. The celebrations took place at three orphanages in and around Pretoria.

The artist, renowned for his latest hit TheShow Goes On (featuring Jack Parow and Die Heuwels Fantasties), visited the Lebogang orphanage in Soshanguve, the Boikhutsong orphanage in Saulsville and the Leamogetswe orphanage in Attridgeville. During the visits, over and above entertaining, he also provided special lunches, supported by sponsor Smoothies, and assisted staff with cleaning.

“The Mandela Day campaign message is simple; it’s a call to action for individuals everywhere, to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Madiba did.

“It makes me proud to know that I can be one of the people that carries on a legacy as profound and significant as Nelson Mandela's. We are making a difference in people's lives and I am looking forward to making a small, but positive contribution to my community,” says Bogopa.
