If you grew up in the 1980s you've probably fantasised about owning a DeLorean DMC-12. The vehicle, which starred as the time-travel device in the Back to the Future film trilogy, is making a comeback.Stephen Wynne, a Liverpudlian mechanic living in the US, who has built a thriving business fixing DeLoreans and selling refurbished DMC-12s, plans to recommence series production of the car next year. The cars, complete with distinctive gull-wing doors, will be built in Humble, Texas.Wynne, who has been working on the cars since 1981, acquired some of the company's stock from the ashes of bankruptcy, assuming the name of the DeLorean Motor Company in 1995.Two years later his company bought the inventory and the right to reproduce the parts and, gradually, the rest of the intellectual property. But being in a position to produce a car has taken a long time, partly because of strict US legislation governing production.Wynne is excited about the prospect of bringing the iconic car back to life, saying: "It's been a labour of love. It has been at least a 25-year project."The new model will be "closely aligned" with the shape of the original version. It will use the original DMC stainless steel body panels. Thanks to advances in engine technology the new DeLorean will be more environmentally friendly and have a higher top speed than the 240km/h of the 1980s model. ..
