A Ghana court has postponed an extradition case for the spokesman of ex-Ivory Coast leader Laurent Gbagbo until next week after a fresh warrant was issued by his home country last month.

Magistrate Aboagye Tandoh adjourned the hearing to October 16 after prosecutors said they wanted to combine the two cases involving Justin Kone Katinan.

"I am confused now. I don't know what is going on. What happens to my freedom ?" Katinan said in court after the new date was announced.

Tandoh responded that "we have the due process to follow. You have to be a man."

Katinan was first arrested on August 24 in Ghana, where he and thousands of other Gbagbo loyalists fled after the fall of his regime.

The initial arrest was over a warrant for alleged economic crimes while he was budget minister during a violent crisis that followed Gbagbo's refusal to cede power in November 2010.

Katinan was granted bail on September 25, but then he was re-arrested three days later following a fresh warrant issued by Ivorian authorities the same day he was granted bail over the murder of two men.

In a procedural move, Katinan was also charged with murder in a Ghanaian court on October 1. His lawyer said the move was designed to continue to hold him in custody while prosecutors pursued extradition.
