A man found with perlemoen (abalone) with a street value of R3.6 million will appear in the Somerset West Magistrate's Court on Monday, Western Cape police said.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said the man, 28, was arrested on Friday after they received a tip-off about a black Audi being used to transport perlemoen. Police spotted the car passing through Somerset West and gave chase, stopping it at the intersection of the N2 highway and Victoria Road. Police found 3807 perlemoen in the car.

The driver would also be charged with reckless or negligent driving.
