SA men's squash team in tough pool

SOUTH Africa has been seeded 12th for the Men's World Squash Team Championships which start in Chennai, India, today.

The biggest squash event ever held in India will be hosted by the ICL Academy, which boasts seven all-glass squash courts and the championship glass court, which has a glass floor.

Jesse Engelbrecht, who has moved up 20 places to 76 on the latest world rankings, will lead the SA attack, supported by Stephen Coppinger, Adrian Hansen and Clinton Leeuw.

The first part of the championship sees the record number of 29 teams entered for the tournament divided into eight pools.

After completing the pool round robin, the top two teams from each pool progress to a 16-team knockout event.

SA are drawn in Pool E g with 5th seeds Malaysia, as well as Kuwait and Sri Lanka - neither of which are to be taken lightly.

The finals will be played on Wednesday December 12.

Pool B: England, Hong Kong, Spain

Pool C: France, USA, Japan, Venezuela

Pool D: Australia, NZ, Scotland

Pool E: Malaysia, SA, Kuwait, Sri Lanka

Pool F: Canada, Ireland, Austria

Pool G: Pakistan, India, Kenya, Bermuda

Pool H: Netherlands, Wales, Sweden, Taiwan. - Sapa
