The family of Nick Greyling, the Supersport sound engineer abducted in Nigeria a week ago, are still waiting for him to be set free.

South African Greyling and two Nigerian colleagues - cameraman Alexander Effiong and commentator Bowie Attamah - were taken from their bus last Monday in Imo province, near the Owerri airport.

They were en route to Lagos after a Nigerian Football League match.

The kidnappers' demands have not been made public. Effiong escaped soon after the attack.

Yesterday, Multichoice Africa spokeswoman Caroline Creasy visited Greyling's wife, Lorna, and his extended family.

"Nick is still being held captive . we don't know how long we still have to wait [for his release]," said Greyling's father-in-law, Johan Roussouw, a presenter on Radio Sonder Grense.

Creasy would not discuss negotiations for his release, saying only that the "Nigerian authorities" were handling it.

"The last I heard, the Nigerian government was negotiating for his release," said department of international relations and co-operation spokeswoman Nomfanelo Kota.
