The provincial executive committee of the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (denosa) in the North West Province has called for Premier Maureen Modiselle to fire Health and Social Development MEC Rebecca Kasienyane.

This is after denosa learned with ‘shock and dismay’ about the MEC’s decision to shut down the Mafikeng based Mmabatho College of Nursing.

“Denosa is angered by the delay and arrogance demonstrated by government in dealing with challenges in this college,” denosa said, “The PEC is therefore calling on Premier Maureen Modiselle to remove MEC Rebecca Kasienyane of Health and Social Development from her office,”

Other issues under contention include payment of housing allowance, uniform allowance, accommodation and the college's suspended principal.

DENOSA says it held a meeting with the MEC in an attempt to resolve these issues on June 23. "The MEC in that meeting promised to come back with a way forward. In the middle of that process she arrogantly closes down the college after the students correctly refused to meet with her without representation from labour today".

A spokesperson in the office of the premier said they are not aware of denosa’s statement and would comment once they have studied it.
