The IFP will oppose an IEC attempt to overturn a court ruling allowing it to submit late candidate lists in Umzumbe, KwaZulu-Natal, the party said.

Last month the Electoral Court ruled that the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) be allowed to submit its list of candidates to stand for the May 18 municipal elections in the area.

This, after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) disqualified the IFP for submitting its candidates' list after the 5pm deadline on March 25.

The matter is expected to be heard in the Constitutional Court on Friday.
