Taxi driver in court for 15 crash deaths

A minibus taxi driver charged with killing 15 people in a road accident will apply for bail in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Khululeka Gwala, 22, was charged after the accident on New Greytown Road, in Allandale on September 30.

He applied for bail last month and the application was expected to be finalised on Thursday.

Those killed in the accident were: Ndombikayise Zondi, 35, Phindi Dube, 38, Nomathemba Hadebe, 36, Khisa Shangase, 71, Themba Zondi, 52, Thabile Lushozi, 21, Gabisile Ndlovu, 39, Zibuyile Duma, 68, Norah Sidu, 63, Linah Brown, 56, Nhlanhla Thabethe, 15, Thulanezini Mthethwa, 23, Thokozani Sokhela, 29, Siphiso Nkalana, 42, Busisiwe Dlamini, 40.
