A computer hard drive which "gave in" has delayed the case against suspended Tshwane metro police deputy chief Ndumiso Jaca until 2013, the Pretoria Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.
Magistrate Graham Travers said his hard drive "gave in" at the end of November and repairs on it started only a week ago.
"I must humbly ask 'til January when I am back from leave, I will be in a position to give a written judgment."
The matter was scheduled to resume on February 19.
Jaca wore a bright red jacket, a Scottish hat and a matching tie for his court appearance. He faces 11 charges, including fraud and driving a vehicle with unregistered, false number plates, and police lights.
He was charged in March when an Eyewitness News report alleged he was driving a BMW Z4 with false number plates and police lights. He was also apparently seen on a Harley Davidson motorbike with the same number plate, Balty GP.
