That's hot, or not? Heiress - and now DJ - Paris Hilton's accessories and handbags concept store opened in Johannesburg yesterday, the first in South Africa.

Almost eerily, there were no whistles and bells around the store in Bedford Centre in Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg. By lunchtime, it still hadn't greeted its first customer.

Nothing about the store is over the top, as one would have expected, even with a slogan at the entrance reading "Join me on the catwalk" suggesting otherwise.

The items were startlingly cheap. Wallets are priced at up to just R699, clutches are going for around R1100 and cheetah print totes are on sale for up to R2799.

Owner Tamsyn Janse van Rensburg, 22, said she fell in love with Hilton's line while visiting Dubai, where Hilton now reportedly has five stores in the popular city in the United Arab Emirates.

Janse van Rensburg expects the 32-year-old Hilton, who has surprised many with her DJing skills (her residency at the Ibiza nightclub Amnesia has been renewed for next year), to officially launch the store next year.

"I expect business to be slow for now," she said.

"Everybody has a Guess or Polo, so we're trying to get something different here, and why not? Paris is stylish and classy."
