With little over a month to go before CEO Brian Dames leaves Eskom, the Department of Public Enterprises and the power utility are said to be at an advanced stage of finding his replacement.

Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba and the Eskom board are also said to be in the process of filling other posts, including that of group executive (human resources).

Eskom announced in December that Dames had resigned for personal reasons. Dames last week said that the national electricity grid remained constrained.

He said this would continue until the new generating capacity comes on stream and essential generation maintenance is done. He called on all consumers to save as much electricity as possible to avoid load-shedding.
