South Africa has no intention of sending any troops to the Central African Republic.

Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said yesterday that, though there was a crisis in the CAR, South Africa would not deploy troops until there was proper command and control of the regional, French and other European troops already based in the country.

"The issue is not about the shortage of boots on the ground. The issue is about how best you utilise the forces that are there. My personal view is that there are so many players that can easily cause confusion," she said.
