A couple were arrested for allegedly leaving a two-month-old baby boy inside a parked vehicle at a shopping mall in Tzaneen, Limpopo police said.

The boy was left inside the vehicle on Saturday, with the windows closed, while his parents went shopping, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

"Security guards heard the baby crying and alerted the police," Ngoepe said.

The couple were found inside the mall and arrested, and the boy was rescued from the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital.

"He was unharmed and released into his parent's custody," said Ngoepe.

The couple would appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court later on Monday.
