A top Gauteng police officer allegedly implicated in the appointment of police members who failed to pass the SAPS recruitment stage has appeared in court on charges of fraud.

Brigadier Vuyokazi Ndebele, who five years ago faced 55 counts of fraud, appeared yesterday in court in Soweto.

The policing cluster commander was released on R2000 bail.

"An internal investigation will be launched," SAPS spokesman Brigadier Neville Malila said.
