Is soapie Rhythm City cashing in on the circus currently following Kelly Khumalo?

After days of speculation, e.tv finally confirmed that the girlfriend of slain Bafana Bafana star Senzo Meyiwa will be making a comeback in the show as party girl Sunay.

Channel spokesman Matlapulana Ragoasha said yesterday: "We can confirm that Kelly Khumalo's character will be back on Rhythm City. Her character, Sunay, has a recurring role on the soapie."

Khumalo also confirmed the news yesterday. She has played the part since the show launched in 2007.

Khumalo raised eyebrows on Wednesday night when she walked the red carpet at the 6th annual Chevrolet Feather Awards in Sandton, when many felt she should be in mourning after the death of the father of her daughter, Thingo.

On Twitter @khayeLK said: "I just can't believe it that Kelly Khumalo attended an awards ceremony less than 500 hours her child father is down on soil."

@yuli_dombela encouraged the singer, saying, "Girl you looked so beautiful and strong on that pink carpet last night!!!! I admire your confidence, despite anything else."

Khumalo's job on the show has also been plagued by rumours of misbehaviour and accusations of shoddiness.

During her last appearance it was reported that she had angered producers by pitching up late for shoots.

Khumalo said at the Feather Awards: "Whether I came out today or 10 years from now there would still be a question: Why did I come out?"

In the meantime sales of Khumalo's albums and book are soaring.

Universal, her record label, said it was considering pumping cash into an advertising campaign as her albums were doing so well.
